Poem Rainbow Face Mask by Parker

A rainbow face behind the mask of pain.
Her eyes we filled with tears,
The heavyweights of the bags,
Not only the ones that she carried,
Not a Christmas sack of joy,
Sacks filled with an airy disposition of despair,
More likened to panda shaped rings.
Yet no bear hug of comfort.
Her hair like barbed wire,
Metallic rustiness with shades of abandonment,
Crying out for that loving hand to touch the roots of her soul with loving care.
Longing to hear the whispers of kindness help,
Wind swept, battered and broken.
Sleepiness nights,
Huddle in the back seat of a car,
Safe from the cold winter winds,
Yet not a home to call home.
Surrounded by belongings,
Papers and bags,
Filled with her priceless possessions and memories written in black and white,
A man by her side,
Tall lifeless and silent,
Motionless in a land of dreams,
So far, far away,
As he watched the clouds float by,
In the depths of his mind,
Forgetful,
Finding it difficult to remember,
The rosier days,
The sunshine and the green fields,
The smells of the flowers,
The freedom of life’s treasures,
Now lost as he stood by her side,
As she reached in the bottom of her bag,
To find the words,
to express her sadness and desperation.
Wrinkled, crumpled and crushed.
Gasping for air, choking as her smile was lost to her toes.
A glass of water to quench her thirst,
Running warm water to nourish her soul,
To remove the cobwebs,
The dark nights,
The never ending circles,
Trapped in a silk web,
finding it hard to fly, move and escape,
To find a ray of sunshine.
As she closed the car door,
Shaking and shivering,
Another night, one more night,
Hoping for the morning sun to light up her face once more.
A rainbow face behind the mask of pain.
